Sledgers, Primrose Hill

I’ve wanted to paint this view for a long time. The inspiration for this painting was Bruegel’s Hunters in the Snow. I like the tender way he paints the vulnerability of the people on the ice in the background and the large ominous crows in the foreground. A lot has happened to the city that is my muse since I’ve been circling the globe. The financial model has spiralled out of control and uncertainty hangs heavy over the city. It was a relief to see the timelessness joy and innocence of the Sledgers, united in their purpose, conjoined by a blanket of snow.
