‘Boutcher & Co’ William Morris  Printmaking Residency with Boutcher School Year 6 pupils 2023

William Morris inspired project. After a visit to the William Morris Museum in Walthamstow we discussed Morris’s life and working ethos. We learnt about his pacifism, his interest in workers’ rights, social welfare, education and his  environmentalism. We chose to focus on his early love of nature and made observational drawings of natural forms. We used his business model to set up a workshop printing t-shirts, tote bags, baby grows, greetings cards and wallpaper with imagery from the natural world. We worked as a cooperative running a shop to sell our lovingly designed Boutcher & Co products to raise money for future school trips.
